Tobacco

Tobacco in fragrance bears little resemblance to cigarette smoke. Tobacco absolute, extracted from cured tobacco leaves, is rich, dark, honeyed, and slightly sweet, with balsamic depth and a warm dryness that reads as luxurious and sophisticated. Think of a fine cigar humidor or aged pipe tobacco.

Tobacco became fashionable in niche perfumery as a counterpoint to the wave of fresh, clean fragrances dominating the mainstream from the 1990s onward. Brands like Tom Ford and Nasomatto built signature tobacco-forward fragrances that positioned tobacco as aspirational and grown-up.

Tobacco pairs beautifully with leather, honey, vanilla, amber, woody, and smoky notes. Wearers who love tobacco accords often enjoy leather, smoky, oriental, and whiskey accords for similarly rich, dark experiences.
