It is derived from Zingiber officinale root and can be used in ways ranging from very fresh and bright to deeply warming and medicinal.

Ginger has enormous range in fragrance. In fresh compositions, it adds a sparkling, lively edge that feels close to citrus. In oriental and spicy fragrances, it contributes a warming, slightly pungent depth. When combined with woods, ginger can create an almost balsamic warmth.
